The static you can hear was present. That’s old static, resonance of an old time in an old room. Nothing ends properly, no one knows how anything starts.

That scratching sound,

that brittle flake of charcoal resting on the edge of the embers,

the brim of what I remember

I suppose it’s everything at once

Is that rainfall or laughter?

Is that the wind I hear?
